Virginia Social Security Disability Lawyer

The Social Security Disability (SSD) process can be complicated, to say the least. When an individual has been seriously injured or has become disabled, dealing with the bureaucracy of SSD can be overwhelming.

At MordhorstLaw.com, we can help you understand SSD, and guide you through the process of applying for benefits. To find out more about SSD, please contact us online or call 1.866.4-VACOMP.

Social Security Disability - The Procedure

Applying for SSD can be a complicated, multi-step process. The following are steps that may be involved in applying for SSD, depending on your circumstances:

  • Initial SSD application - We can help you with the initial SSDI forms. It is important to note that most SSD claims are denied the first time around. The next steps are taken if the initial claim was denied.
  • Request for Reconsideration - A Request for Reconsideration must be filed within 60 days of the denial. Hiring an attorney at this level is advised. We may be able to procure the appropriate medical opinions to get a favorable decision at this level.
  • Application for hearing - If the Request for Reconsideration is denied, the next step is to apply for a hearing. The hearing is handled by the Social Security Administration. The hearing takes place before an administrative law judge. Having competent legal representation at this stage is critical.

If you are in the process of applying for SSD benefits, the sooner you can get a lawyer involved, the better your chances of getting benefits. At MordhorstLaw.com, we understand the eligibility requirements and application process for both Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI.)

Not being able to work is a frightening idea for most people. We will insure that your claim moves through the process correctly and do everything we can to ensure a favorable outcome for you. Our goal is that our clients will be able to maintain a high portion of the income they had before they became disabled.
